These short, intensive one-day, six-hour courses are designed for employees who need to become more productive in the shortest time possible with practical hands-on experience. Courses are one day in length unless stated otherwise. Registrations are accepted on a first-come basis. Early registration is recommended. INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE FUNDAMENTALS
The Industrial Maintenance Program at CVCC Alexander Complex combines the knowledge of mechanics, fluid power, electricity, and sensors into an integrated hands-on, skills-based curriculum for employees working in maintenance, operations, and automation.
CVCC's INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE FUNDAMENTALS is designed around completion of three learning segments, each with a third-party certification available upon completion:
Industrial Maintenance Fundamentals (111 hours) – provides classroom instruction and hands-on labs two days per week in 3-hour sessions (morning, afternoon, and evening courses) including in:
- Industrial Mechanics
- Fluid Power Systems
- Industrial Electricity
Motor Controls/PLC'S (96 hours) - providing hands-on instruction in motor controls and programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
Advanced PLC'S (96 Hours) - includes process controls, robotics, and advanced PLCs.
Graduates of each class earn a Technician Certification and will sit for third-party certification exams.

Notary Public
Students should register for Notary Public classes in person at least two weeks prior to the class date. Students will be given the Notary Public handbook at the time of registration. The Secretary of State Office requires all students to read the handbook prior to attending the class.

WELDING
The Welding Technology curriculum provides students with a sound understanding of the science, technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metal industry.Instruction includes consumable and non-consumable electrode welding and cutting processes. Courses in math, blueprint reading, metallurgy, welding inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing provides the student with industry-standard skills developed through classroom training and practical application.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
The EMT course provides an initial education in the world of emergency medical science. Introductory and general information in a variety of medical fields and how to perform the most basic, but critical, life-saving skills will be studied. The EMT course is a 228-hour course. The course includes a classroom portion (didactic) that presents necessary information about medical problems and treatments, a lab portion (psychomotor) where hands-on skills are practiced, and shifts on an ambulance for a field observation lab.

nurse aide Level 1 (CNA 1)
The Nurse Aide Level 1 course prepares students to provide personal care and perform basic CNA skills to work in a variety of health care settings including long-term care, hospitals, and home based services. Emphasis is placed on the aging process and covers topics including basic nursing skills, communication, patient's rights, safety, CPR, and professional collaboration. Upon successful completion of the course, student will be eligible to apply for the two-part written and skills portions of the state competency exam before being listed on the DHSR CNA I Registry.

nurse aide level 1 Refresher (CNA 1)
Refresher courses are provided for both CNA I and CNA II to reinstate expired certifications (must be within the last 24 months) or obtain NC registry for out-of-state registered CNA I or II applicants.

nurse aide Level 2 (CNA 2)
The Nurse Aide Level 2 course provides training in more complex skills for working with patients or residents regardless of setting. Topics covered include the role of the nurse aide II, oxygen therapy, sterile technique, wound care, suctioning, trach care, peripheral IV fluids, urinary cath, nutritional activities, and elimination procedures. Upon successful completion of the course, student will be eligible to register with the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) for certification.

MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT
This course is designed to provide training in the skills required for medical front office staff as well as give the student an understanding of billing and reimbursement procedures in the medical office through the use of CPT, ICD10 and HCPCS manuals. Topics covered include preparation of medical records, health insurance and financial records of patients, clinical procedures used in a medical office, preparation of medical reports, and handling front office operations. This class will be an online class, but the class will meet on campus on the first night. A textbook will be required.

Medical Terminology
This 120-hour study of the professional medical language is directed towards the lay person as well as those already working in a medical setting. The first night of class will be on campus and the remainder will be online. High school diploma or GED required at registration. Text required.

HEALTHCARE BILLING AND CODING (CPT AND ICD CODING)
This course prepares an individual for entry level healthcare billing and coding positions. Course topics can include but are not limited to the roles and responsibilities of this position, managed health care, life cycle of an insurance claim, legal and regulatory considerations, coding regulations, reimbursement issues, and claim instructions, medical terminology, filing commercial claims, insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and Workers Compensation. Upon completion, students should also be able to utilize MS Windows and the internet to effectively retrieve billing-related information and updates. This program is online, but will meet six nights during the course of the program.

Medication Aide
This course is designed to meet the training requirements for becoming qualified as a Medication Aide. The course will cover the six rights of medication administration for non-licensed personnel. Topics will include medication administration via the oral, topical and instillation routes, medical asepsis, hand hygiene, terminology, and legal implications. Upon completion, students should be able to take the competency exam and demonstrate skills necessary to qualify for listing on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry.
Upon successful completion, students can apply for the NC State Competency Medication Aide exam. This class is designed for Medication Aide training to work in an Assisted Living Facility.

Pharmacy Technician
This class provides the knowledge and skills needed to perform as a pharmacy technician under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Topics of study include the effects of medication on body systems, daily preparation and distribution of drugs, pharmacy law, vocabulary and calculations.

Phlebotomy
Learn the proper techniques for performing venipuncture and skin puncture. Students will practice sticking technique on one another in class. After successful completion of the class and lab portion of class, students will be assigned a 40-hour (1 week) clinical rotation. Second shift clinical sites are very limited.

Basic Pistol for Women
Women are purchasing handguns now more than ever and wish to have a foundation of knowledge about the "tool" that may be necessary to defend themselves. This hands-on course teaches second amendment rights, the proper way to handle a handgun, safety in and outside the home, explanation of ammunition, and it touches on the five fundamentals of shooting. This is not a NRA or conceal carry course. No pre-requisite required. Optional range time.
Beginning Pistol Defense For Women-Level 1
Now more than ever women are buying handguns to protect themselves. The modern woman is stepping up her role to protect herself and the people she cares for. This hands-on course covers purchasing the correct handgun, beginning defensive pistol techniques, principals of situational awareness which is to stop a deadly problem before it begins, and how and when to engage to prevent from going to jail. This is not a conceal carry course. Pre-requisite is Basic Pistol for Women course or valid Conceal Carry Permit. Optional range time.
Beginning Sewing
Designed for the beginner, students will learn how to thread and use sewing machine. Learn simple sewing techniques and how to sew small items using straight and curve seams. Learn to choose and buy a simple pattern and make a vest or pajamas. Sewing machines are provided although students may bring their own if they wish. A general supply list will be provided prior to class.
Digital Photography
Come learn the basics to take great pictures with your digital camera. Designed for new users of digital SLR cameras, this class will focus on fundamentals of digital camera operations. You will be introduced to digital photo imaging, exploring the use of hardware/software, image capture, and input/output devices. Students must bring their SLR cameras to class.
Digital Scrapbooking
The art of designing scrapbooking layouts on your computer.
Sign Language
Students focus on mastering the basics of finger spelling, basic vocabulary, and facial expressions using American Sign Language (ASL).
